WOMEN IN NEED
At our Holiday Party, we collect toiletries in support of Women In Need (www.winnyc.org). WIN transforms the lives of NYC homeless women and their children by providing safe housing, critical services, and ground-breaking programs. We also hold a raffle at the Holiday Party, with all proceeds donated to WIN.
We received a lovely thank you letter from WIN, and a certificate of appreciation, see below (to read the letter or see the certificate click on the buttons below. Your Secretary is still learning how to do stuff, like make the PDFs big enough to read or rotate them!)
UNITED WAR VETERAN'S COUNCIL
MBWCNY supports our valued member, Marleen Levi and her work with the United War Veteran’s Council (UWVC). MBWCNY sponsors UWVC each year with an advertisement in the Veterans Day Parade Commemorative Newspaper and we host our Goodwill Valentine’s Caravan Event each February.
MBWC members can enjoy a lovely evening of social engagement, creativity, and camaraderie as we touch the lives of others. The cards we make are brought to our soldiers personally by MBWC member Marleen Levi, A Goodwill Ambassador for United War Veterans Council (UWVC) during their Goodwill Valentin’s Day Caravan to Washington D.C.
Also, for anyone interested in providing any in-kind donations at our next event, some items always needed which are big hits include books and toys for military children, women's toiletries and cosmetics, DVD's, candy, baseball caps and stuffed animals.
Brooklynite Marleen Levi never served in the military, but she knows a lot about enlisting -- and enthusiastically recruits volunteers to help make more days feel like Veterans Day.
"I'm not a veteran, but I'm a passionate veterans' advocate," said the freelance writer, who for the past 15 years has been a volunteer with the United War Veterans Council, a nonprofit that produces the annual NYC Veterans Day Parade and other events.
After the parade passes by, Levi is busy mobilizing support for other ways to show veterans and wounded warriors how much we salute their service and sacrifice.
Levi and United War Veteran’s Council Executive Director Patrick Gualtieri, who nominated "Molly" for a Liberty Medal in the Lifetime Achievement category, co-founded the Thank You for Serving project, now in its eleventh year, which collects thousands of well-wishing greeting cards for active-duty troops around the world.
